What comes to your mind when you hear the label ‘positive people’?
Are they born that way? Or is there a certain trait that earns them that title?
Somewhat true, you’d be surprised to know that positivity is a habit. More like happiness or self-acceptance, positivity is developed through a commitment to yourself. A staunch belief in cultivating a positive outlook on life. Those are called positive life habits.
As a famous quote goes by;
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning. But anyone can start today and make a new ending.”
The great thing about positivity is that anyone can develop it if they put their minds to it. For that purpose, today I am writing to enlighten you all on how to foster positivity in yourself by adopting positive life habits.
Ready to ditch negative thoughts and activities, and wear the red cape? Let’s indulge in positive habits.
1. Find optimism everywhere
An important life habit that can change the way you view the world is to find the silver lining in every situation. The lens that you use to see things can be changed, improved, and cleaned. An essential positive life habit of positive people is to pause, take a step back from initial ego-driven thoughts, and see the silver lining.
There’s one thing you can remember if you want to be optimistic about life. See challenges as your chance at growth and nourish a ‘growth mindset’ at all times. Remember; the only purpose of an obstacle is to overcome it.
2. Live in the moment
An old-school term for “living in the moment” is called mindfulness. Positive people know that the key to happiness is being mindful of your surroundings, from experiencing them physically to savoring every moment. By going a step further, when you start to live in every moment without dwelling on the past or the future, you naturally become grateful for yourself and your life. Gratitude is a surefire way to ooze positivity and happiness.
3. Don’t play the victim
Positive people who have positive life habits would never want to wear the crown of the victim. If you tend to blame others for things that happen in your life, you’re not a positive person. Stop finding an excuse for everything that goes wrong. Stop relying on others to make you happy. Throw away the shell of the victim and become the go-getter in your life.
4. Make it a habit to sweat every day!
Sounds cryptic, no? Did you know that 20 minutes of sweating when you exercise can elevate your mood for as many as 12 hours without kidding? Positive people spend a major part of their lives exercising daily. They make it a habit as it helps them relieve stress, elevate mood, and boost mental health. To be a positive person, you’ve got to get out, breathe fresh air, and do some movement.
5. Find peace & positivity with meditation
A staple of my blogs because I believe in it as strongly as I believe in Higher Power is manifesting positivity via meditation. According to “Practicing Mindfulness” by Matthew Sockolov, even short meditations can turn a bad day around, ground us in the present moment, and help us approach life with gratitude and kindness.
Developing mindfulness helps get you above the cloud of your thoughts and make you aware of the real you. For instance, recognizing your ego at work is the first step to achieving a positive mindset. Positive people can easily separate imagination from reality as they are regular meditators who can differentiate one sense from another and be mindful of themselves fully.
6. Practice self-care
A crucial point in fostering positive life habits is investing in self-care. Don’t skimp on the “me-time” no matter what. Life would keep changing but prioritizing yourself will be beneficial in the long term. Positive people do all that they need to get done for themselves – be it getting enough sleep even if it means turning off all points of contact; adopting controversial hobbies if they give them a social outlet; or creating little havens where they can be alone to recharge and refresh themselves.
When you spend time with yourself, you begin to see your true worth. In turn, that leads to distancing yourself from anything that fills you with negative energies. It can be a toxic relationship, toxic friends, toxic workplace, or toxic thoughts. As I mentioned above, when you invest in self-care, you start to do exercises that benefit you more such as meditation and mindfulness, instead of wasting your energy on practices that don’t benefit you in any way.
To conclude, it is obvious that becoming a positive person is only about cultivating a positive outlook in life. While that may sound easy, for some of us, it is not. Make notes of these proven positive life habits that’ll help you cover the journey to unending positivity, productivity, and happiness.
