Reiki healing, generally called ‘Reiki’ is another energy healing technique that alleviates stress and provides relaxation. Shamanic healing and reiki are two different practices of the same family. In the last blog, I described how shamanic healing can help you find harmony from emotional and physical trauma as it repairs your soul and calls on your spirit guides. There is a three-way partnership of healing between the client, shaman, and spirit/helping guides.
Reiki is a tad bit different. Based on the idea that we all have an unseen “life force energy,” Reiki originated in Japan in the early 20th century by Mikao Usui.
Did you know that ‘rei’ in Japanese means “universal” whereas ‘ki’ means the life force energy that reverberates through all living things?
What happens in Reiki?
Before I explain what exactly happens in Reiki and how you can master Reiki healing (yes, you can do it!), it’s worthwhile to know that nearly 1.2 million adults and 161,000 children in the United States have received reiki healing/energy healing therapy in the year 2021.
It is a two-way partnership between you and your practitioner. By using gentle hand movements, a Reiki master guides the flow of healthy energy through your body with the intention of healing and removing causes of ailments such as anxiety, stress, and/or depression.
Experts don’t directly attribute healing to Reiki, although clients do experience healing in terms of pain management, stress, and depression.
Think Reiki like a spiritual practice – just as meditation benefits you in ways unknown and unexplained, Reiki, which is a lot more sophisticated practice, falls in the same category.
It allows the energy to flow through the person and travel to any part of the body. Reiki helps your body heal itself naturally even if we don’t always know the root cause. The science of Reiki is the movement of energy – also called the Universal energy – that surrounds us. It can replete areas where energy is depleted and calm down areas where it is stimulated.
All you have to do is be willing to receive that energy to comfortably lie back and receive whatever is required.
Health benefits of Reiki healing
It should be strictly remembered that Reiki does not substitute, in any case, for medical treatment. The practice has been associated with managing health and creating feelings of relaxation, peace, security, and wellness.
Reiki healing improves overall health and wellbeing by doing the following;
- Promoting a meditative state
- Fostering tissue and bone healing post-surgery or injury
- Stimulating body’s immune system
- Promoting self-healing
- And relieving pain or anxiety symptoms
Can you learn Reiki by yourself?
Yes, you can.
Reiki can be learned by anyone, regardless of health, age or education. It’s fairly simple to learn, only if you’re genuinely willing to do so.
I personally learned Reiki from Judith Conroy, best-selling author and founder of Chikara-Reiki-Do who is also a retired nurse, a Reiki master, psychic, and medical intuitive.
With whopping 35 years of experience, she really knows what she’s teaching – and that’s teaching Reiki to newbies like me who had a passion for spirituality but no background or credentials to vouch for.
Judith has brought Eastern and Western Reiki together to make a truly powerful, effective, and holistic Reiki learning experience.
Try Reiki and see for yourself
I cannot emphasize enough the emotional, spiritual, and physical benefits that this practice brings to you as the receiver. As a student of Reiki, you can avail those benefits at home with friends and family in the first degree of training right away.
Usually taught over 8-12 hours, you will learn hand placement and movement in “spot therapy.” The second degree of training is distant healing whereas the third degree makes you the Reiki master.
Let’s talk about a time you went for an energy healing session – I’d love to hear you in the comments below!
